Brecon Jazz Festival

What: Family-friendly jazz do in bucolic surroundings.

Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival

Where: Various venues, Edinburgh
What: Live performances from leading jazz and blues players, plus workshops and the unmissable mardi gras.

Glasgow International Jazz Festival

When: 29 June?3 July
Where: Various venues, Glasgow
What: One of Europe's biggest jazz events. The Old Fruitmarket hosts most of the outdoor action, with smaller, "chamber jazz" gigs taking place in more intimate venues.

Manchester Jazz Festival

When: 22?30 July
Where: Various venues, Manchester
What: Wide range of styles on offer and much of it free: the festival managed to retain its council funding this year.

Scarborough Jazz

When: 23?25 September
Where: The Spa, Scarborough, North Yorkshire
What: Classy and increasingly popular three-dayer with a wide range of contemporary talent.
Who: Hadouk Trio, Liz Fletcher, Orchestre National de Jazz, Kate Williams Quartet, Andreas Varady Quartet

Swanage Jazz Festival

When: 8?10 July
Where: Various venues, Swanage, Dorset
What: Mixes well-known with younger performers. Ten venues and a boat trip to boot!

Upton Jazz

When: 24-26 June
Where: Upton, Worcestershire
What: The organisers invite you to "Moor your boat, pitch your tent beside the river Severn and walk to the jazz."
