Michele Bachmann wants Michelle Obama to quit meddling with American moms - especially their breastfeeding habits.
The Tea Party darling and Minnesota congresswoman slammed the First Lady for supporting a tax break on breast pumps, accusing her of trying to lead a "nanny state."
"I've given birth to five babies and I breastfed every single one of these babies," said Bachmann earlier this week on Laura Ingraham's radio show. "To think that government has to go out and buy my breast pump for my babies. You wanna talk about the nanny state? I think we just got the new definition of a nanny."
"I strongly believe in breastfeeding," Bachmann said on Thursday's "Good Morning America," but argued the "tax code is used by government as social engineering."
Last week, the Internal Revenue Service said it would reclassify breast pumps as medical-care purchases that could be deducted as medical expenses.
The IRS noted that children who are breastfed are less likely to become overweight, something the First Lady has spoken out in favor for in her campaign against childhood obesity.
Obama has previously spoken about how she breastfed her youngest daughter, Sasha, who is now 9 years old.
Bachmann, who is considering a run for President in 2012, said the First Lady's efforts were "very consistent with where the hard left is coming from," adding "for them, government is the answer to every problem."
Obama's communication director, Kristina Schake said "Breast feeding is a very personal choice for every woman. We are trying to make it easier for those who choose to do it."
