Adam Anders won't be straying far from his TV background, with a Disney Channel star providing the label's first release
In what seems further evidence of Glee's dominance over pop, show producer Adam Anders is launching his own record label.
Anders, who co-produced more than 100 songs for the hit show, isn't straying far from the successful TV tie-in format. The first release on Anders Music Records will be the eponymous debut album from Shane Harper, who plays Spencer Walsh in the Disney Channel sitcom Good Look Charlie. Future releases are planned from Zac Poor and Ben Burgess.
Harper's debut single One Step Closer, which was featured on the Disney show, sold just 3,000 downloads ? but Anders claims to be in it for the long haul. "I don't believe in putting out a single and then if it doesn't hit, drop the artist. We are here to develop artists ? there is no timetable for getting it right."
For his next signing, Montana native Poor, Anders has developed a reality show, The Poor House: "With Shane, Disney offers platforms. With Zac, we have to create them." But he was also keen to stress that the label will not begin and end with tween pop: "I'm 35 and I tend to gravitate toward younger artists. But if the singer is 30 and the music's great, I'll consider it."
Glee's popularity shows no signs of abating. Earlier this year, the cast surpassed Elvis Presley in having the most songs on the Billboard Hot 100. The show recently moved into original songs, with the Max Martin co-write Loser Like Me proving the biggest hit. A tour will start next month with a 3D tie-in movie to follow.
